Purely by Accident – Author’s Afterword
***
This story officially comes to an end today. I can’t quite describe how I feel about that — a little liberated, but also a little lost. I’ve been a JJWXC reader for the last five years, and every now and then I’d feel the urge to write something myself, but I never went through with it until two months ago. I can’t remember now exactly what it was that motivated me to finally do it. Probably because all things are a matter of time and chance: you do something when the time is right. When I began posting the first chapters, all I had was an outline. I had no completed drafts, no planned plot points: I’d post each chapter as I finished writing it. Often I’d sit down with a cup of coffee and then simply start writing, following the story wherever it took me. When I realised there were readers who actually liked what I was writing, I was overwhelmed with gratitude. Probably because I’m a new writer, everyone who has commented on this story has been very kind, and very few brickbats have been hurled my way. I know perfectly well myself that this story, put together from whatever happened to come to my mind, is nonsensical at points, could have been structured much better, could have been written more logically, and is full of mistakes. Luckily, I’ve finally concluded it, and I would like to thank everyone for your support and company along the way.
So long, everyone. We may meet again, or we may not.
